Abstract

In conducting interviews for an oral history project with Erica, we became very interested in the topic: raw milk.  Raw milk is an alternative to pasteurized milk over nine million people have turned to.  Because of raw milk's dark past though, there is some controversy to it.  The FDA and CDC warn people of possible illnesses and death caused by drinking raw milk.  As a result, raw milk is only legal in twenty-seven states.  However, movies such as Food Inc. have brought to light pasteurized milk's dark secrets as well.  Taking our research a step further by finding news articles and college journals, we began to question our own diet.  Of raw and pasteurized milk, which, if any, is safer for people to consume?  We found evidence supporting both to be safer than the other.  However, there was more information found to support raw milk as the safest and most beneficial of the two.
